Beasties and Butterflies Ball
Nairn Book and Arts Festival 2024
Getting ready, getting ready, getting ready for the Ball.
There are
3 bees in this garden of flowers,
3 bees loving the flowers,
3 bees collecting sweet nectar and golden pollen
For honey cakes,
And ice cream,
And tasty treats for wild beasts!
Preparations begin….
There are discussions and stories and conversations about creatures. There is drawing and sketching and experimenting with shapes and symmetry
There is making. And colouring. And cutting. And sticking.Lots of sticking
Mammoth beetle eye |
And through all that, the stories start: tales of the last two Mammoth Beetles, of knotted snakes and beautiful lizards. There are bees and wasps and butterflies and a wonderful blue, winged newt. There is an ants’ nest and a swarm of spiders…..
The Beasties Ball is taking shape!
More instalments to follow: antennae topolish, wings to dust, worms to add bows to....
Then on Sunday, 8th September, at 10:30am by the Bandstand, on the Links of Nairn, The Beasties will gather. The Butterflies will flutter. There will probably be Something crawling. And there will be music to dance to, to march to, to stamp and hop and slither and creep to!
Our Parade will work its way round to Viewfield where we will end The Beasties and Butterflies Ball with celebrations and stories and poems from the school artists who have created our creatures
Why not bring a picnic and rest among the trees and the flowers and the strange and wonderful creatures of our parade? Or just come along and find out more about the Festival and about the special wildlife of Nairn

In forest and jungles.
And sunny woodland glades,
On a beach,
On an island
Under stones and over logs,
Even on the streets of New York!
We live anywhere and
We get everywhere,
We are the creatures of Cawdor!
With many thanks to the wonderful artists of Cawdor Primary School!
